qmail - Can't send out to the world?

Hi everyone,
I posted a few days about running a mail server to support virtual domains. I've installed qmail and I can send mail to myself using 'telnet localhost 25'.
My problem is that if I go into Outlook on my M$ XP box, whatever I try to send makes a bounce message saying '553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)'.

I have put into this 'rcpthosts' file the two domains that I will be exchanging mail for (say domain1.com and domain2.com). I have even tried using 'any' but then qmail-smtpd refuses to start because it'll create an open relay.

Is there a way around this that means that I can send mail through my server, but not spammers?

(BTW, the server is running qmail as in the qmailrocks.org RH install, and it is connected to a LAN where ports 110 and 25 are directed to it by the router)

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Hi LampMan

I know nothing about qmail but in sendmail I have to add all the IP's of my local machines to allow relaying through my mail server

Perhaps It's IP's you need to add not domain names

This is Sendmails format

localhost.localdomain RELAY
localhost RELAY
127.0.0.1 RELAY
192.168.0.4 RELAY
192.168.0.2 RELAY
192.168.0.7 RELAY
192.168.0.3 RELAY

Not sure this will help but I tried

Pete

When you telnet to the system are you specifying just the username or username@domain as the recipient? Also, what is in your locals file?
