pygtk not finding new pygobject

All this began trying to install sound-converter on my FC5 box. I required pygtk-2.10.6 which in turn required pygobject-2.12.3. I successfully installed the new pygobject-2.12.3 then tried to ./configure pygtk-2.10.6 but it would not find the new version of pygobject, only the old one. What have I done wrong?

Thanks

Find the .pc file for pygobject with "locate pygobject-2.0.pc"; it should be in a pkgconfig directory where it was put when you compiled pygobject. Look at its file date. This should tell you what went wrong. Possibly there are two pkgconfig directories with two such .pc files -- then you need to remove the old one.
