PXE boot - then load disk OS ??

Hello,

We have setup a PXE server and have PXE boot / install working ... is there a way to have the PXE boot image exit and load the installed linux distro from the hard drive ?

I am assuming no .. but I could be wrong

Also is there a maximum initrd.img size ?

Thanks ...

Michael.

I am now able to answer my own question, initrd size is only limited by the available size of your ramdisk. Once the PXE image has loaded ... you can not have it load the boot the OS on the drive. You do however have two options I can think of here:

1. On the PXE server do not have a default file under pxelinux.cfg/ .... create only files for the MAC addresses of the machines you want to load from the PXE server. This way you could control what machine loads images from the PXE server when the machines are starting up.

2. Boot from the PXE server and have it load a initrd.img file that would be the same as the initrd.img that would be used locally. This should be the sames as having the system boot up and load it's own initrd.img file.

Michael.
