Exclamation Puppylinux vmware-config.pl

Hi I got to the point that it asks... What is the location of the
directory of C header files that match your running kernel?
[/usr/scr/linux/include].
Hitting Enter brings up (The path "/usr/scr/linux/include" is not an existing directory.).
I think that it has something to do with kernel source.
I'm using Puppylinux version 4.00 Dingo with devx installed.
I have also asked the VMware Communities at http://communities.vmware.com/thread/161346
Any thoughts?

Gotta download the kernel source package if you haven't already. puppylinux.com/download/ says "if you need kernel source it is at the puptrix.org/sources site. The patches are provided but I also have provided pre-patched kernel source ready for compiling. Before compiling the kernel or modules for the kernel, you must read the How to compile the kernel page".

Hi unSpawn I know that I have the 2.6.21 And I'm should say that I only think that its Dingo, but it could be something different how do I check to see?
I know that I need vmware but I'm new to all this kernel stuff could you walk me through it?
Also I thought that vmware player only needed the source, but if it needs the kernel isn't that on the Cd?
If so then it may be mounted couldn't it?

I don't know Puppylinux or what "Dingo" stands for. If you have the Puppylinux 2.6.21.7 kernel source installed then it should be in a directory named "/usr/src/linux-2.6.21.7". Regardless of the version the version number should be in the directoryname. Doing 'ls /usr/src' should show.

VMware only needs the source for your current running kernel (for version info see: 'uname -r') to build kernel modules. So if your current running kernel is "2.6.21.7" and you have the kernel source installed in "/usr/src/linux-2.6.21.7" all you have to do is feed "/usr/src/linux-2.6.21.7/include" to vmware-config.pl (or symlink the directory 'ln -s /usr/src/linux-2.6.21.7 /usr/src/linux' after which you *don't* have to feed it to vmware-config.pl but you *must* change the link after you install a new kernel) and it will do all the module building itself. There's nothing much else to it.
