I want to setup a linux machine to act as a proxy server, well sort of anonymous surfing that's available on the internet. What's the best way to do this. Can anyone give me pointers to start with?
I want to be able to go to my linux machine and have a minibrowser so I can browse anywhere anonymously.
Squid is a fantastic proxy server, and it is included with just about every distro on earth. One thing though, exposing a proxy server to the Internet requires some serious consideration to security. You will want to lock it down to your remote IP if possible and even that may not secure it propery. Your ISP will get pretty upset if they find your machine being used as a malicious proxy or worse yet, a spammers dream machine.
