Proxy software to unblock internet access on Linux

Hello,
I am currently in China where alot of websites (FB, Youtube, etc..) are blocked. Under windows I use Freegate, HotSpotShield like softwares to unblock the access to these sites.
Kindly inform me where I can find equivalent/similar programs for Linux (Ubuntu 9.10)?

Best regards,
Dr. Waseem

I am sorry to hear about your situation. Many people are interested in stopping this kind of thing.

LQ cannot be in the business of helping people get around firewalls or other kinds of controls. In many cases, these controls are applied within a company or other organization, and we cannot be helping members get around legitimate controls. Unless you want to be a revolutionary, you have to live within the rules of your local environment. If it's at work, being a revolutionary will just get you fired. In a country, the penalty may be much more severe.....
