prompt and top embedded into desktop
 

I remember seeing some screenshots somewhere of someone who had system information dislpayed on their actual workspace - as part of the background. Also, I saw a terminal emulator (command prompt) embedded in the desktop in this fashion, as well. Is this just "root-tail" or is there anything more robust?

Does anyone know what that is, have any screenshots, or other leads as to what I might be talking about?

For the sysinfo stuff, it was probably Conky.

The terminal, for gnome was probably tilda, for kde yakuake.

There's also this tutorial for Ubuntu which would probably work with other distros:

This is sshot of conky, root-tail, gkrellm and rainlendar. Not sure about embedded console though apart from as posted above.
