program requires xviewg but can't install it

I would like to run the bio-informatics program arb on my mepis 6.5 installation. It used to run fine on mepis 6.0 and also runs fine on other systems including RedHat and Gentoo. However, when I try to install arb from the bio-linux repository in the Synaptic package manager, it says that xviewg is required. If I try to install xviewg I get error messages saying that a whole bunch of other programs will be removed if I force the install. What's going on here? Is there a way to run programs requiring xviewg? Or is it fundamentally incompatible with xorg?

thanks, but that link appears unrelated- it is a question I posted about a separate issue.

Obviously, I think your problems, both sets, are caused by moving to 6.5.
