program 4 autistic children????

Hi there!!!

I just have a question. It's like this. I work in Sweden with autistic children. This children have some computers with wink2 at there school. The problem came up 4 a couple of days when the school did'nt want to buy more license to any windows OS.
Then it came on my mind that why not use the best OS on the world, that is free, and u don't have to worry about license and all that shit.. YES Linux.....

So my question is: Where can I find any program for this kind of children so that they can use with any Linux system??? I was thinking og RH (maybe the easy'st linux system???)

I been in contact with an other forum (a Swedish one ) and there are people willing to make a program 4 this children. But if we are more I think It Will be better.....

What kind of program??

Yes what kind of program?.. well this children are 12 -14 years old. The problem is that their are only 1-2 years in there mind. There world are bild on pictures and sounds. So the program needs to be with pictures and voices. So what I looking 4 is how to start learning them to count.
maybe like this:

1 motorbike ----> 1 + 1 = 2 motorbike (a voice said : - One motorcycle + One motorcycle is equal with 2 motorcycle )

But any proposal is more then welcome!!!!

thanx!!!!!

Moved: More suitable in Software where it should get more exposure and most likely more responses.

Not sure what kind of programs there are out there that you're looking for, but I think most kids games/applications (at least the kind you are looking for) would run in wine.

If you find anything else, post back here, as I have daily dealings with an autistic child.

searching google and freshmeat didn't seem to work.

It's bad that you were forced to fallbak to Linux by such situation, but I think there are greater chances to improve such software in Linux.

I think the development community will very gladly help people in need of their "services"
and from what i've seen so far, they can create some of the most original and inovative software you can think of.

I suppose such programs do not demand a great effort on the programmer and can easily be scriptable, so people like you can alter the behavior of the app fastly according to the children need's without need to learn a fully featured language.

open-source concept will also help, probably many "edutainment" apps when modified could be of some help and improvements can be made whenever necessary.

anyway, before such software is created, you might want to stick to using wine as DirtDart

And what are the legal issues involved with those win apps? maybe we still could get something out of them for further development or at least show them to the developers of the linux versions so they get the ideia.

Good luck

I don't know if this fits your needs, and it's somewhat difficult to work out the dependency chain but try this:

Please tell me if it's sufficient, as I deal with the mentally handicapped as well.
