proftpd help

Hi,

I am new to linux so please dont hate me lol. I have installed proftpd in fedora using the yum command but i have no idea how to use it. Does anyone know how to login through ftp from my laptop? I am using winscp and its asking for hostname, username and password. When I installed proftpd it never provided me with any hostname username or password. Can anyone help me? thanks

Besure you use a user you created not root. Besure proftpd is running. If you have iptables or any other firewall besure to open port 21 or if you changed the port use the port you specified. Your hostname is your domain or server hostname. Example host.yourserver.com or just yourserver.com. In order for domain names to work you have to have them registered and DNS setup with Bind or DNS at your registrar. Then put in a username you created an and password. Check out http://howtoforge.com for some tutorials.

Good luck to you

If the your ftp user is the same as a regular user you might want to change your shell back to bash or something. Other wise you don't have a shell to do task on your system(s)
