ProFTPD - 500 FTP server shut down

Code:
Looking up localhost
Trying localhost:21
Connected to localhost:21
500 FTP server shut down (Fri Dec 2 16:55:20 2005 , Current connections will be dropped: Fri Dec 2 16:45:20 2005) -- please try again later
Disconnecting from site localhost
I'm on Gentoo trying to use the proFTPD that came with apachefriends (apachefriends.org). Every starts flawless without any errors, and the apche webserver works fine, but when I try to connect to the FTP server I get the error above. Any ideas? The server is very much on, and when I turn it off it tells me it can't find the host.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Thankx~!
