Welcome to LQ.

Is it just proftpd that has the problem?

What client are you using?

Does it work better if you download from the loopback address:
ftp 127.0.0.1

You may want to try another ftp server such as vsftpd so you get an idea if it is an application problem or a hardware problem.

Im using the client on this comp (my windows comp) Total commander.
I dont know what you mean with the "loop back adress".

also it could be my network card... gonna try change it.

ive tryed several ftp server programs so i cant be that problem either.
ill keep you updated when i change my network card.

With regards to the loopback address - on the ftp server itself access it with:
ftp 127.0.0.1

Then try downloading a file and see if the speed is as expected or if it has problems as well.

Have you tried directly linking the computers via crossover to see if eliminating other network traffic helps?

Did you swap the card with another one of the same model?

Yap, ive tryed crossover,
The other network card was another model.

I just wanna tell you something.
The light that shine on the comp when my HD loading is constantly glowing all the time when it goes slow, and when it just blink all the time it goes fast. so i think it can be my hard drive.
comments plz =)

It could be the hard drive but it would seem unlikely if it was ok via the loopback address.
