Process start delay when network running
After I start my network and obtain an address, certain processes started sit for a while before starting. Those started from a console window cause the terminal to freeze for about fifteen seconds before loading, while those started from the Kicker bar freeze the bar for about the same amount of time before the first window comes up.
I know this sounds like a generic problem that could be caused by just about anything, but I have a specific message I keep getting. If I type 'vi' in a Konsole window, it freezes the terminal. If I send an interrupt (e.g. CTRL-C) the following message appears and I am returned to the bash prompt:
ICE default IO error handler doing an exit(), pid = 2324, errno = 4
I have seen other messages related to ICE. I am really, to be honest, not sure what it is although I have seen that term before. My question is: what can go wrong with ICE to cause such a problem (and what are possible remedies)?
This only seems to affect certain processes. Things like 'ls' and 'cd' are not affected. All X11 apps I've dealt with so far are, though. It goes away as soon as I down wlan0.
P.S. In case I haven't updated my profile, I'm running Slackware 9.1.
