Problems with mplayerplug-in

Hi.
I just saw that there was a new MPlayer version released so I downloaded the source and installed it successfully.
I also reinstalled mplayerplug-in just to make sure.

Then I restarted firefox and surfed to gamespot to watch a video. But all it does is:
Says "Buffering [0%]"
Then it says "Connecting to <serverIP>"
and when its just about to start the video it goes back to say "Connecting to <serverIP>"

Sometimes, if Im lucky, it starts the playback after several times connecting.
I also had this problem when I tried the MPlayer CVS version so i switched back to 1.0pre7.
But now with 1.0pre8 its the same thing all over again

Im guessing the problem is on the mplayerplug-in's side but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know what might be causing it?

EDIT: Hmm, it seems that this only happen with WMV movies. MP3's play as before and quicktime plays, but first it buffers and tries to play but stops. Clicking play starts the playback tho.

EDIT2: oops lol. It was supposed to be an edit not a new post xD

I have had similar problems with .wmv using MPlayer 1.0pre7-3.4.3... Some work some don't, (in the plugin I mean). if I copy the link to the wmv file and load it from a terminal it works fine.

I have not really bothered to figure out the problem, because I don't use wmv format that much. I have a feeling though, the problems is with the plugin and not the codec.

Just a guess

I have also a problem with mplayerplug-in 3.25 and Firefox 1.5.0.4 after I installed the new release MPlayer 1.0pre8 . The plug-in frequently makes Firefox to crash when trying to view a video inside the browser (but can work sometimes).
I get error messages like :
Gecko (...): Gtk-CRITICAL gtk_widget_hide assertion GTK_IS_WIDGET widget failed.
I'm trying to find a solution at this time.

I found a "workaround" solution, for I think the mplayerplug-in last release (even the sources of the day) doesn't work well with the last MPlayer 1.0pre8 release, at least inside Firefox.

I now use the MediaPlayerConnectivity 0.6.3 extension for Firefox to start the video players outside the browser.
This seems to work with MPlayer 1.0pre8 for Windows Media and Quicktime videos. For Real Media videos, I use RealPlayer 10.0.7.785 (gold).

Installing MediaPlayerConnectivity

How do you install MediaPlayerConnectivity in linux. Do you use th .xpi file somehow?

rock

Nevermind. I didn't have the edit-preferences-web features-allow websites to install software set correctly.
