Problems with Linux-2.6-test1

I have been trying to install the 2.6 kernel since last night and have got the same problem everytime. It boots up to "Executing all Device _STA and _INI methods" than it stalls. I have a good knowledge of kernels and have built them for a few years now. I never really ask for help but I just cannot get this one. I tried a 2.5 kernel and it does the same thing. I am running Slackware 9 with updates and dropline gnome. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
