Problems with Java in Opera

Hi, I'm running Opera 7.23, and trying to get java to work...

I've downloaded and installed the jre, and pointed opera to the right place...
My problem now is, the "enable java" button is greyed out... i can't click it, to enable java...

any ideas? I couldn't find this specific question before (i tried searching)

I can get the java working in firebird, so I know the jre is good...

Thanks,

ps: SuSe 8.2 under KDE 3.x
opera 7.23

hmmm, ok, after testing a little further, when I first start opera, the "enable java' option is checked, then as soon as i go to a site w/ java on it, the applet doesn't work, and the option is greyed out...

You said you pointed Opera to the right place, what did you do to do that?
I'm trying to get Java installed with Opera 7.23 now, and I don't remember what to do after installing the RPM.

Under preferences/multimedia you have to choose your java path
(mine is /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_01/lib/i386 ) if you search for "java script" under opera help it gives some other common places for it... then check enable java (which i can't do )

That's weird :}

I didn't do anything within opera and it
picks Java up automagically :}

Maybe your environment variables
don't have the java relevant entries?

Cheers,
Tink

I am having trouble w/java in opera 7.23 also. About Opera says it's enabled but opera crashes on 2 sites. I cannot find the path to opera in MDK 9.2 to enter into opera. I've tried every path listed here and all I get is incorrect path when I try to verify. I installed java from rpm installs in MDK control. jre-1.4.2_01-1mdk. I've looked everywhere but can't find it. Konquerer works fine. The path there is just "java". Ideas?
