PROBLEMS WITH j2sdk-1.4.2-

Password:
[root@Uberleet-Terminal desktop]# ./j2sdk-1.4.2-nb-3.5-bin-linux.bin
InstallShield Wizard

Initializing InstallShield Wizard...

Preparing Java(tm) Virtual Machine...

...[root@Uberleet-Terminal desktop]#

Did all the stuff, said java was installed... but when i opened up konqueror and went in preferences and scanned for new plugins hit OK and tried a website with java in it, claimed i didn't have java.

I must be doing something wrong.

I am doing this from a doze machine @ work so can't check out the details but I am pretty certain that after installing the sdk or jre you have to create a symlink to the plugin in the konquerer plugin directory. I know I had to do this for both mozilla & mozillafirebird

How would Konquerer know that you have j2sdk/jre installed.

For Mozilla, you have to create a link in its plugin directory /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.

Look for something similar in Konq!

In /usr/lib/mozilla-<ver>/plugins

ln -s /<path to j2sdk>/jre/plugins/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so libjavaplugin_oji.so

I don't use Konq so not sure about how to make it aware about the existence of java. Do some Googling.

in the directory you have j2re go to the plugins directory click on the .so file and drag it to the plugins directory for Konq. when you release the mouse button one of the options is create link here. click on that.
It worked for both Mozilla & Mozilla Firebird - should work for Konq.
