problems with installing software


when i ever install a program it installs.. half-a$$ed. i still don't understand tar.gz configuring files. but with rpm's i've installed winamp,groaster,gaim and others.... where are they? how do i access them? do i restart the computer? i need some help, please.

For rpm's installed on your system you can always find where the exxecutable is by typing in console
rpm -qs packagename
so for instance
rpm -qs gaim
the result is
normal /etc/CORBA/servers/gaim_applet.gnorba
normal /usr/bin/gaim
normal /usr/bin/gaim_applet
normal /usr/lib/gaim

.... so on, so from here I can see that gaim exec is located under /usr/bin/gaim; so if I type in console gaim it will launch the app.
