problems with flash in firefox

I've been using firefox for quite a while now, and there's one thing that bothers me. Whenever I use a flash page, whether it be a website made with flash or a game, there's some weird kind of lag going on. It'll play the flash, but after 1 second the entire thing will pause for about half a second and then continue on without a hitch. It happens everytime the page does something, so say if you were to mouse over a button that made an action happen in the flash, if the action took longer than 1 second ther pause would be there and after the pause nothing would go wrong, until another action happens. I have no idea what to do!! I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash numerous times, but nothing changes! I'm using firefox version 1.0.

I'm also having some major problems with Flash under Linux (FC3), and Firefox (1.0). Just installed the latest Flash plugin RPM from http://macromedia.mplug.org/ -- that doesn't change anything. Some flash sites don't have too much trouble, just a little bit of lag.. but some, for example www.flickr.com in the "organizr" section, runs REALLY slow and basically brings my entire system, 3.2GHz P4 with 1GB memory, to a standstill. Once it hung for a few minutes and I had to cycle the power. What's up with this??
