Problems with CUPS (Server)

Hey!

I just tried to install my Printer (Canon LBP-660). I use Slackware 9.0 and KDE 3.1.0.
I used the KDE Control Center and chose CUPS. The it tries to initialize the Manager but then the following error message appears:
=================================================
Unable to retrieve the printer list. Error message received from manager:
Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is correctly installed and running. Error: connection refused.
=================================================

What's the problem here? Thanks for any help

Cups local / remote?

Hi there,

You have problems with cups. First of all I would like to know if you run a loca or a remote cups server?

If remote, you need to adjust authorization in Cupsd.conf (most of the time in /etc/cups. If local, it should work out of the box.

Hey!

I am pretty sure it isn't remotely.
So it must be local. I dont even think a CUPS Server is running. How can I find out. And how can I start the CUPS Server?

THX
