problems with connecting with mobile via USB IrDA in Kandy
Hello
I have problems with connecting with my mobile in Kandy.
This is what I get when checking what is the port:
tail -f /var/log/messages
May 27 15:17:07 mac kernel: usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 8
May 27 15:17:11 mac kernel: usb 2-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9
Last two lines of dmesg:
usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 8
usb 2-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9
I have /dev/usbdev2.1 but when I try to communicate in Kandy I get:
You can't open the device 'PŠ/usbdev2.1'. Please check if you have permission.
And then:
You can't open modem /dev/usbdev2.1
After that the program closes. I wonder about these strange signs after 'You can't open the device'. What's wrong?.
are you sure '/dev/usbdev2.1' is the correct device to be using? I belive this is the device to your USB port, not the phone. If you are using udev, it should create a device for you. Check if you have anything in '/dev/usb/*' that points to the phone. You might also want to try '/dev/ttyUSB0' or '/dev/ttyACM0'. The later is for making TCP connections through the usb cable which might be the way your phone is supported in linux (need to add in kernel support for this). As I said in your other post, it would be easier to give you better info you you post your system info and the phone make/model.
regards,
...drkstr
PS:
If you got the 'usbdev2.1 from one of my earlier threads asking for with this, I apologize for the incorrect information. It has sence been updated and you can re-read it here
I have no folder dev/usb/. The same regards /dev/ttyUSB0, there's no such device. I couldn't find /dev/ttyACM0 also. What is there to be done in this situation?.
Are you running udev? Udev creates the device nodes for you automatically based on the device. You also need need to make sure you have kernel support for ACM modem in order for this one to work. If udev can not create a device for you, your phone might not be supported natively in Linux and you should look to the manufacturer to get the correct device drivers.

**edit**
I belive for /dev/ttyUSB0 to work, you will also need to enable kernel support for something like usb - serial converter. I'm not sure which option this is however since my phone uses the ACM protocol for connectivity.

Form my own experience with Kandy and a Samsung D600:
- Make sure you get the right device ID set up in the Kandy conf menu
- enable the "activate modem at start up" (or something similar, I am doing a translation from french to what I suppose it says in english).
That simple toggle got me from the same error messages as you to a running (though not as much as I desire) connection.
I can connect and synch with the sim card, but not with the mobile phone's memory.
