I am trying to run wine under mandrake 10.0 and having a few problems. I can get the program to install ok. I can get it to run simple programs such as notepad. However, I really wanted to get a couple of my games working and this it won't do. Anything which requires an install it won't have. From hours of toying with this the closest I can get to the problem is that it doesn't have access to the necessary directories. If I try and start an installation it doesn't get very far before telling me that it can't write the necessary files. I think (and I'm still really guessing) that when the program was installed all of the necessary directories were created with root priveleges. If this is the case, would it be the cause of the problem and how can I fix it?
If anyone has any other experience with wine that would be most helpful.
Your best chance with running games would be to get a copy of cedega winex for $15. That's what I use for jedi knight 2/ academy, HL, CS:condition zero, etc... IT's still wine, but a lot easier to use...
