Exclamation problems updating fro perl 5.6.1 to 5.8.0

Any help on this would be appreciated.

I have a perl module that requires 5.8.0 and when I run perl -v, it says that I have perl 5.8.0. But when I try to load the module is says
Perl v5.8.0 required--this is only 5.6.1...

Now to make doubly sure, I've compile perl 5.8.0 with defaults in standard locations but still gives me the same error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

you compiled 5.8.0? well then you've probably broken the system as your 5.6.1 system will have been installed from rpm. you can try removing te 5.6.1 rpm but that is likely to give a mountain of dependency issues and a lot of future headaches.... =try "make uninstall"ing 5.8.0 and instead upgrade by RPM.

Thanks for the suggestions. However, I don't think that will work. I've tried downloading the rpm, but it's gives me a list a dependencies (glibc-2.3 for example). I like to compile the source because it gives me the chance to change little things that I can't do with an RPM.

I'm tempted to force the install but I'm afraid it's going to break things.

Is there anything else I could try, less upgrading my entire system? (I'm running RH 7.3...I don't want to upgrade to 9.0)

I've also tried erasing the old version of perl (which is 5.6.1) but it gives me a whole list of dependencies as well...I dislike RPM's....
