Smile Problems running mythtv

I just installed mythtv and after configuring it the following message appears on the screen :

Could not connect to the master backend server --is it running? Is the IP address set for it in the setup program correct?

I am writing from Argentina and the program includes our TV standard which is PAL-NC.

IP adress is 127.0.0.1 (this is a stand alone computer) .

Is there anything I can change in the setup ?

Any help will be wellcome

well IS it running or not? does "ps awx" tell you that the mythtv server actually is working?

I have the same error, have front and back on different machines.

When running the following command on my backend:
Code:
 ps aux | grep mythtv
I get the following readout:
mythtv 2332 0.0 1.8 99612 9704 ? Ss 18:43 0:00 /usr/bin/mythbackend --daemon --logfile /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log --pidfile /var/run/mythtv/mythbackend.pid
userX 8413 0.0 0.0 1440 276 pts/1 R+ 20:50 0:00 grep mythtv

Is this good? It seems to be running! I know mysql is running and my nfs mount is working.

That looks fine. So now you want to check that you have connectivity to the backend. Ping the private IP assigned to the backend from the frontend. Moving along, check your mythsetup to ensure you have the correct IP setup for the backend in the general settings section. From there, ensure that the mysql is running and that the database is there and accessible.

Cool

I just had a similar thing...

I have a single machine (no backend per se -- it's running local). Myth bogged down, so I rebooted. Got the 'couldn't connect to backend' message.

Telnetted in, ran 'mythbackend', got a segfault. Ran it again, worked fine.

Killed the process, ran 'nohup mythbackend &', and it seems to be OK, but not sure what caused it, nor if it will occur again upon reboot.

You seem to be looking for the wrong thing. The thing that segfaults is 'mythbackend', not 'mythtv'. Do this:

bash# ps aux | grep -i mythbackend

You should get something. If you don't, it's not running. That's when you may run:

bash# nohup mythbackend &

...then feel free to exit, dmesg, whatever floats your boat.
