Problems installing wine on Ubuntu 6.06

I am trying to install wine on Ubuntu 6.06 and I am experiencing some problems that I hope you can help me with.

I followed te instructions on wine HQ to donwnload and install wine using synaptic, but the problem is after installing it, how can I open it?

I alt+F2 and type in wine but nothing will load and wine isnt in any of the sections in the menu and I cant locate it on the menu editor.
I was wondering if maybe I have done anything wrong, so please help me.

Thanks

P.S: Do I need a win XP rom to run wine??

Try typing winecfg in a console to configure wine and winefile to open a "Windows Explorer".

I have Ubuntu and I opened up synaptic made sure it was set 'all' on the left. Then I went to the right highlighted the first file. The I typed in wine. It will take you there and you will see another wine file below it. Right click on wine, a window pops, click install. Also you will need gtk 1.2 also. Which you can do by going past the 'g' files and type in gtk. Do the same thing with it as you did with wine. Hope this helps.
