For Linux users, Download the file, close Firefox completely (File > Exit) and run the installation. In the dialog that appears, click on the Other browser... button. There you must specify the path to the plugin folder for Firefox. You should know in what folder you installed Firefox. In that folder, there's a sub-folder called "plugins". Select that folder and click Select, then click Install.

If the above info doesn't work for you, run the "flashplayer-installer" that should be in the Flash bundle you downloaded. Run that and follow the instructions. Be sure to have your browsers closed when doing this.

Running the Flash installer will install the plugin in all browsers it detects, if you want it to.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but what architecture is your computer?
If it it x86_64, I don't think that you can run flash.
Part of the problem is that firefox may be installed in different locations. Sometimes is is under /opt.

Here is another dumb idea. Run the mozilla browser. Does flash work then?

i have 1.0.4, my extensions list is empty, i click update it says no updates avaliable... my flash works just fine.

if you aren't running a 64, then you are doing something wrong. I would start over from the very begining.

ok, im running FC5 x86_32 using firefox 1.5.0.1, and ive been around the block between using firefox's automated install program, throwing files in folders, and using flash's terminal install script. None of it seems to work. Should i download a new browser and hope it works, or is there any other way? I can use my other box with windows, but im trying to stay away form the evil Bill Gates box except for some gaming.

I guess it's possible you got something confused. You could try uninstalling Firefox and re-installing it. Your bookmarks and cookies and stuff will remain since those are installed in your home directory, as is the Flash plugin if you ran the Flash installer as your regular user id.

It came pre-installed in FC5. Should i uninstall it and download and reinstall it?

there shouldn't be any reason to uninstall and reinstall firefox. If anything, double check to make sure the files you were told to copy to your home/../firefox/plugins directory. Because there aren't a bunch of posts about flash or firefox not working, more than likely you did something wrong. I would start over and reinstall flash. Take your time and follow the instructions.
