Problems Installing Gaim

Distro - Red Hat 9
Install Date: 1/12/05
Home Laptop: Dell Latitude CPi

I would like to upgrade my version of Gaim (this is the one which comes with the RH 9 distro)

Here's what I have done:
I went to gaim.sourceforge.net
Downloaded gaim-1.1.1-0rh9.i386.rpm
Opened a terminal and entered the following (using su -) rpm -i gaim-1.1.1-0rh9.i386.rpm
The following error occurs:
error: Failed dependencies:
libgtkspell.so.0 is needed by gaim-1.1.1-0rh9

The Gaim website states:
libtgtkspell.so.0 is provided by gtkspell. This library is used by Gaim to provide the "Highlight misspelled words" feature. You can find an RPM of gtkspell at freshrpms.net. You can find the source and a non-Red Hat specific RPM at gtkspell.sourceforge.net.

I downloaded the rpm for gtkspell and attempted to install it as per the instructions above and it then produced a similar error: Failed dependencies... something about aspell

I searched for some kind of help for installing the gtkspell rpm and found nothing.

At this point I stopped, partly out of frustration, and partly because I believe I must be missing something.

Any ideas?

there is usually a button on the RPM manager or whatever you use to install the programs called check dependancies, that you can click to tell you if anything is missing then you can downlaod thos reuired files i know its a pain, but its usually worth it

Ah, ok

I will need to locate my RPM manager. This distro does not appear to have it real handy.

I will let you know

Thanks for the quick response, Superne
