hello !
ich have a little problem getting proftpd running ... I was playing around with the config files a little and some of the other programs shipped with it ... and it doesn't work anymore ...

everytime someone connect they see a message like this one ..
Finding Host xxxxxxxxxx.net ...
Connecting to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:21
Connected to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:21 in 1.522188 seconds, Waiting for Server Response
500 FTP server shut down (going down at Sun Sep 12 16:29:25 2004) -- please try again later
Failed to receive response after connect

the problems is that the date for the shutdown was about one week ago ... and since then nothing works anymore.

can someone help me ?

Is FTP even running any longer? What did you change in the config file? What distro and how are your running/starting proftpd? Better details get better responses.

well ... I kept a version of the old config file and replaced my changed version with it ... so there are no more configuration changes left ... ftpd is run from inetd ... and I'm using slackware 9.1

Have you tried sending a SIGHUP to the inetd process to restart it possibly with the old config?
