Unhappy Problems Compiling Python

I am installing some scientific analysis tools from source. It is going rather badly in general, but I have identified the first failure as during the build of a custom python.

Here is a snip showing the errors:

Python build finished, but the necessary bits to build these modules were not found:
bsddb185 bz2 dl
imageop linuxaudiodev ossaudiodev
To find the necessary bits, look in in detect_modules() for the module's name.

Failed to build these modules:
The readline module actually seems to build ok, but it throws this warning:
*** WARNING: renaming "readline" since importing it failed: /home/meyer/research/software/heasoft-6.12/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu-libc2.12/lib/ undefined symbol: PC
which I guess is why it says that it failed?

Note that when the master script calls the configure in the python directory, it also shows some warnings:

configure: WARNING: unrecognized options: --enable-symbols, --with-tcl, --with-tk

To get some answers, you will have to provide much more information.

Which OS is used ? Name, version, architecture , please.
Why is a "custom python" required ? Which version ?
Which "heasoft-6.12" applications do you want to build ?

About python modules ..
Some are never built : Unavailable and outdated modules.
There used to be a patch to disable those ..

compiling, python, readline
