Problems building XFree86

Some qns regarding building XF86....

1. How do I enable PAM support? Is xdm the only program in
the package that can use PAM? I'm not running any commercial
or popular distros so the make scripts may have some problems
recognizing the presense of PAM on my system. How do I
explicitly enable it?

2. How can I (if possible) build only selective parts of the
source package. Like if I wanted to build only the run-time
libraries and shared objects, driver modules and just the X
server, how do I go about configuring this?

3. Compiling xcursorgen fails with a compile error (I don't have
libpng installed) is there a way around this w/o actually
having to build libpng?

4. Is it safe to use a very agressive optimization setting? I
managed to build the whole package (excluding the above
features) using the gcc setting (-O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -mcpu
=i686 -mmmx -msse -m3dnow -minline-all-stringops -momit-leaf
-frame-pointer). Are there any inherent problems with this?

5. I have a Sis630 integrated chipset. Any chance of OpenGL
hardware acceleration support for me on Linux?

6. When I enable DRI in XF86Config, X complains about not
finding the "sis" module? Do I need to obtain this driver?
Doesn't the X source tree contain a "sis_drv.o" module?
What's the difference?
