I've got a problem. I can't play more than a single file with either mplayer or xine befure video won't playback anymore.

This is an odd problem. I thought there might be a tmp file sticking around in /tmp but I'll be damned if I can find one, and that shouldn't affect both programs at once.

What's happening is, I can play a single avi with either xine or mplayer, but then after I quit playing the file, or it's played completly through, I can no longer play ANY file with those two applications and have the video be displayed. All I get is a black box.

I have an Athlon 2500+ with a GeForce4 Video card.

Has anyone else ever seen this? Can someone give me ideas of what to try to solve this issue?

Here's an update...

I've been playing with xine and mplayer, and here's what I've found. If I start more than one of the players up (multiple copies of xine and/or mplayer) the second copy plays video just fine. The first copy continues to not display video correctly...

Any ideas?

nothign offhand, but what video output are you using? try -vo x11 -vo xv, -vo sdl etc... with mplayer.

does mplayer provide any errors or something when it gets to the video output?

Usinf -vo x11 works, but the framrate seems to be a bit, odd... and it definately eats up more cpu..

-vo xv didn't work, and this is the default visualizer to try.

-vo sdl didn't work. Something about not being able to open the specified device...

The way I understand it is that -xv SHOULD work as it uses the hardware functionality of my video card, such as overlay and such?

x11 DOES work however. Is there any reason for me to go on a hunt to fix xv (it did work before, no idea why it stopped) when x11 seems to work?
