Hy.
I'm using Mandriva 2009 (KDE 4.1). I saw that many people have problems with skype on linux, but I saw something different thing, which isn't comment in any of other posts.
I don't have any sound in skype :/
When I'm starting skype by console, and I'm trying to make test sound there is a comunicate:
RtApiAlsa: callback thread error (RtApiAlsa: audio write error for device (pulse): Błąd wejścia/wyjścia.) ... closing stream.
What should I do?
PS.: Sorry for my english
Thank for any advice

Hy.
I'm using Mandriva 2009 (KDE 4.1). I saw that many people have problems with skype on linux...
And many more of us don't! I have skype successfully running on 3 Mandriva 2009 KDE 4.1 machines. Did you check the sound device settings in skype? Make sure that the correct sound in & out device is selected. Also check the sound device settings in the mixer.
I have checked every device settings in skype :/
And every device has the same problem :/ This comunicate is showing, when I just start the skype :/
I have checked the setting in alsamixer, and like for me there is everything ok.
Any other aplication doesn't have any problems with sound only skype :/
Tarzan,
You might try a live CD run and see if the particular drivers in that distro work Skype. I was running Puppy Linux, Live CD, and within Puppy you can ascertain the working sound driver and then maybe load that driver inside your Mandriva to work Skype.
Also, check Synaptic to see which versions of Skype you have available. Sometimes switching version works when problems arise.
If you need Skype immediately for some reason, try Puppy and just figure that when you need to phone, load 'er up and call.
Good luck. Michael
Does the "device (pulse)" mentioned in the error message have anything to do with pulseaudio? does skype think you're using pulseaudio? Does skype work with pulseaudio? (I know it works with alsa).
Cheers,
jdk
Tarzan,
"Changed something" in settings is not much help.
Change one setting at a time and mark down on old fashion paper what you have done. Reset it if nothing changes and try the next setting, etc.
Then try some combinations of settings, 1 item with second item, 1st item with third item, etc, then second item with next item etc, the whole possible series of comibnations all the way down the list. While time consuming, it may do the trick.
In PCLinuxOS2007 which I run, in Synaptic there are two versions of Skype, one called "static" and the other one, whose name I forget. Try both. I think only the static worked for me. I am not at the machine right now so I can't be sure but PCLinux is an offshot of Mandriva so maybe that will do the trick.
