Problem with password after installing Redhat

Hi,

If anyone could help I would be very grateful.

My problem is I have installed Redhat 8.0 (Minimum Version), everything went well there.

But when i rebooted it when it told me to, it asked me for a login name and then password.

For example

login name:admin
password:fred

then is comes up with
[stuart@admin login]$

What does this mean?

I have created two user's and none work.

Thanks

Stuart

you're at a bash prompt, like a DOS prompt. if you have installed XFree86 correctly, just type:

startx

then hit enter.

remember that the passwords are case sensitive.

How would I check if XFree86 is installed.

I installed the minimum version because I think when it came to install that file 'XFree86' I had to put in the second CD, when I put that in it crashes.

Does the minimum version have that file?

Sorry the exact message is,
[admin@stuart admin]$
I put startx after that, but it does not work.

It means you don't have X windows and that means no Graphical User Interface. You could try to rpm it...but that might be a trick for a new user. I would just reinstall. Choose custom and then insure that the proper packages are going to be installed.

Should I maybe download another ISO of disc 2 then?

Is that why it keeps crashing, I only installed it minimum because I didnt have to put disc two in. If thats the reason will I get past the bash stage ok.

Thanks everyone your are helping me figure out this problem, hopefully it should be ok soon.

Stuart

P.S any other methods I'm willing to try.
