problem with mplayer+XviD+DivX

i've compiled and installed the latest mplayer + required MS codecs pack. well everything works fine and so. but than i've downloaded a movie which requires XviD (well i can run it in mplayer, but there is almost no animation, just sound!). so i've downloaded, compiled and installed XviD... and nothing has changed. the movie looks as it looked before. in addition when i check what sort of codeck would be required (that is said in properties in WinXP) it says it'd need DivX. so i've downloaded DivX... things haven't changed. any ideas what could i do?

have you tried reconfiguring+installing mplayer after installing the codecs?

well i've tried to compile it with --with-xvidcore=/usr/local/lib/libxvidcore.a (my source to that file). but in configure.log i found the following output:

##########################################

============ Checking for ============

#include <xvid.h>
int main(void) { xvid_init(0, 0, 0, 0); return 0; }

gcc /tmp/mplayer-conf-7144-30647.c -o /tmp/mplayer-conf-17092-30647.o /usr/local/lib/libxvidcore.a -lm
/tmp/ccQghuCp.o(.text+0x19): In function `main':
: undefined reference to `xvid_init'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

ldd /tmp/mplayer-conf-17092-30647.o
ldd: /tmp/mplayer-conf-17092-30647.o: Nie ma takiego pliku ani katalogu

#include <xvid.h>
int main(void) { xvid_init(0, 0, 0, 0); return 0; }

gcc /tmp/mplayer-conf-7144-30647.c -o /tmp/mplayer-conf-17092-30647.o -lxvidcore -lm
/tmp/ccQy292B.o(.text+0x19): In function `main':
: undefined reference to `xvid_init'

ldd /tmp/mplayer-conf-17092-30647.o
ldd: /tmp/mplayer-conf-17092-30647.o: Nie ma takiego pliku ani katalogu (translating from polish: no such file or directory)

Result is: no
##########################################

wtf is wrong with that?
