Unhappy

well...i have linux 7 and i decided to install it on a FAT32 partition('hdb1' for example),it's 5004M of space.i selected 'disk druid',then 'hdb1',then 'edit'.i typed '/' for a mount point,i saw the warning and finally a started the installation.i used a boot disk, and i entered as a user.now when i type 'startx' or 'xinit'(they both work) it can't load Gnome 1.2('No screens found').during the installation i didn't saw a window offering me to load it automatically.
where am i going wrong?

thanks to all of you

Linux 7...? You mean Mandrake Linux or Red Hat Linux or what are you using...?

Anyway, have you tried to configure X with some of the setup tools that you may have installed? Try some of these commands as root:

XF86Setup or xf86config or Xconfigurator, if you have installed it. Note: the program names are case sensitive!

After configuring X with some of these tools, try again startx and see what happens.

i really should have mentioned that.it's a Red Hat distribution.

i tried those commands and the Xconfigurator couldn't probe my video card.it couldn't recognize it even when i tried to describe it manually.
eventually that might be the problem.what do you think?

thanks again
