Problem with KPPP

I'm using Kubuntu 6.06 with KPPP. It detects my 3Com external serial modem and dials OK and say's it's connected but when I bring the Konqueror browser up and try say eBay, I get, "An error occured while loading www.ebay.com. Unknown host www.ebay.com". Anyone know how to fix this? Also, it says it's connected at 9600 kbps. Why so slow? Thanks.

maybe a problem with DNS? whats the first few lines of output of the command 'ping 72.14.207.99'? basically does it say you receive a reply or not? note, it will continue to output indefinitely, press CTRL + C to stop.
