Problem with KDM

When I click the "log in" button in KDM the screen flickers black and I am immediately returned to the KDM logon screen.

The error is:

"Server is already active for display 0"

I found on google that this is because KDM uses X, which causes problems when another X session is started when I try to log on.

Could anyone tell me what I should do to get KDM working again? The more detail the better.

I don't see that it would make any difference, but I'm using Mandrake 9.2, except with KDE 3.2 from Mandrake Cooker.

Thanks,

James
