Problem with Java plugin using mozilla

I downloaded the j2re-1_4_2_05-linux-i586.bin ,extracted and moved the files to "/opt" after that I created a file named java.sh .

Content of java.sh:
export JAVA_HOME="/opt/j2re1.4.2_05"
export JAVA_PATH="$JAVA_HOME"
export PATH="$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin"

to set the $PATH then I created a link of the "libjavaplugin_oji.so" to the mozilla plugin folder
"/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins" using
ln -s /opt/j2re1.4.2_05/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so
and then restarted mozilla but after trying too many times restarting mozilla and my computer I got kinda hopeless so can anyone please help me out I really wanna get this to work.

java

You may want to check which version of mozilla you have installed. I am aslo having the same problem.

There maybe more than one directory of mozilla, I installed it in both places, mozilla/plugins and also mozilla-1.2.1/plugins, but still cannot get it to work.

I had the same problem under Redhat 9 and Mozilla 1.2.1.

The .../ns610-gcc32/... directory didn't work but .../ns610/... did.

been there....

mozilla likes to hang out with this convention:

Code:
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.7
with it's plugin directory here

Code:
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.7/plugins
where the 1.7 is the release number (which changes so check your about box)

i'm not sure if it's wise to be using an older version of mozilla, 1.4 was around for ages so i'm not sure where 1.2.1 is coming from

also, gxine will put it's plugin here:

Code:
~/.mozilla/plugins
gxine does this just to mess with your head....

also, have your java.sh script in the /etc/profile.d directory with correct permissions or it ain't gettin executed!

also, it's not a bad idea to have a soft link to your java jre, it's makes things a bit more flexible

Code:
ln -s /usr/lib/j2sdk1.4.2_05 /usr/lib/java
