problem with gcc


hi i am re installing my gentoo linux using the manual from gentoo.org and when i try to emerge something i get an error
gcc-config error Could not run/locate "1686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc"
help me pleaase

this may be, because your gcc is "i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc" and not "1686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc" (note the "i" I wrote whereas you have an "1" in that place.
If you have this in your CHOST Variable in /etc/make.conf - it cannot work - fix the typo there.

:O sorry that typo was mine when posting this thread the make.conf is correct any other ideas?

how about:
gcc -v
gcc-config -c
gcc-config -l

because of this I wanted to be sure your gcc is found - and of the same version as reported by gcc-config.
I was asking for "gcc -v" which prints out the version and all of the configuration - does it match with the output of gcc-config?
You should also verify, that in /etc/env.d/gcc/ everything is consistent.

just noticed: you are doing this from live-CD? Are you in chroot? If yes - make sure you enter chroot properly like described in the docs and do env-update before trying anything else
