problem with fetchmail and hostname

I thought I'd set up fetchmail properly but it seems to forward messages to user@localhost - I'm a bit out of my depth here. Using "fetchmail -d smtpname user" solves the problem. Do I have a problem with fetchmail or with my hostnames or both?
Thanks

Where can I (in SuSE 8) remove all traces of hostnames/domain names that I have assigned to this box so that I can continue my learning process and start with a very clean slate? I want it to feel like I've just installed SuSE - without reinstalling.
Thanks
