Problem with command 'make' while trying to install git-1.7.4
I am facing issues while trying to compile git-1.7.4 on Red Hat Linux release 8.0 (Psyche) machine. I have given steps that I have followed. Please help me with this.
bash $sudo ./configure --mandir=/usr/software/share/man --prefix=/usr/software
%%%%%% Configures properly %%%%%%%%%
bash $sudo make all
* new build flags or prefix

read-cache.c:73: structure has no member named `st_ctim'
read-cache.c:74: structure has no member named `st_mtim'
read-cache.c: In function `read_index_from':
read-cache.c:1357: structure has no member named `st_mtim'
read-cache.c: In function `write_index':
read-cache.c:1637: structure has no member named `st_mtim'
make: *** [read-cache.o] Error 1
You will never succeed to compile modern software in such an old distro.
Better install a more recent OS
I am posting this reply so, other users can benefit from it,
I could compile and install by following steps.
but RH8 is and has been DEAD for a very long time
it has not had any security updates in many many many years
just running it IS A HAZARDED to the rest of the net
we DO NOT want zombie boxes !!!
