problem with audio in jack
 

I'm using Fedora core 8 on a 386 dell laptop, and I was trying to use skype, but I can't get the mic to work. I've tried using multiple mics and I've tried them with audacity too, so I know it's not any one program or the mic. On trying the mic with skype on windows (on the same computer, different partition), the mic worked beautifully. Is this some kind of driver problem? What should I do? thanks for your help.

Try opening alsamixer or kmix and play around with mute settings for the mic.
