Problem when trying to update GD

Hello, and thank you very much in advance for your help:

I'm a linux newbie and I have passed my first night suffering...

I have tried to install GD version 2.0.33 having already installed php and a previous version of GD (I think it was 1.0.6)

I followed the instructions, but I must have done something wrong, because after doing a reboot, the server didn't work anymore. I still can access via telnet through the domain name, but if I try to access the web, it doesn't work.

I would like to try to disable GD or something, but I don't know how. Php version is quite old, I think 4.1.6 ? I cannot access phpinfo, so I don't remember the exact version.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thaks again,

Jorge
