Smile problem using shared folder Virtualbox

Hi, i have installed Virtualbox on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux system. i have a Windows XP Virtual Machine. he Windows machine works okay.
i now want to use Shared Folders. using instructions from virtuatopia.com i first created a folder to share and listed it and it's path on the host Ubuntu Linux Virtualbox Windows machine shared folders. this seems okay.
i then booted the guest Virtual Windows machine. i did not find the shared folder listed in the networks. i then tried the net use command as follows from the terminal command line.
net use s: \\vboxsrv\vmshare where s should be the disk with vmshare folder. the command runs a bit then asks for username for Vboxsrv.
i entered my windows userid although any thing works. it then asks for the password for Vboxsrv. on windows i do not have a password so i used my Ubuntu password which is rejected with system error 5.
i have search with no valid hits. thanks for your help ken

Are the instructions similar to this page? http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=15868

A couple of things to try. Assuming your logon name is the same on virtual Windows and Ubuntu, try setting the same password on Windows as Ubuntu. Alternatively, set up another Windows user with a password for use when connecting the Shared Folder.

Incidentally, from the VirtualBox User Guide:

12.3.8 Long delays when accessing shared folders

The performance for accesses to shared folders from a Windows guest might be decreased due to delays during the resolution of the VirtualBox shared folders name service. To fix these delays, add the following entries to the file \windows\system32\drivers\etc\lmhosts of the Windows guest:
Code:
255.255.255.255 VBOXSVR #PRE
255.255.255.255 VBOXSRV #PRE

Hello thanks for the updates.
i am using the following site http://www.virtuatopia.com/index.php...Shared_Folders pages 5 & 6

also i did try making the Windows ID and Password the same as my Ubuntu.
VBOXSVR would not accept the Password.

Maybe there is another way to accomplish shared folder???

As it happens I just created a new minimal instance of WXP running in a VirtualBox VM with Shared Folders. Working as Administrator (the only logon -- this really is a minimal instance), I used Windows Explorer to browse "My Network Places (yuck!) -> Entire Network -> VirtualBox Shared Folders -> \\Vboxsvr and then dragged each Shared Folder to the desktop to create shortcuts to them. Was able to open them by clicking on the shortcuts.
