Hi Ellie,

And welcome to LQ.org. Everybody I know is having trouble with MSN Messenger protocol today, not only on Linux, but also Mac OS/Adium and even with non-MSN Messenger clients. Either Microsoft is updating their servers or they really want to block everybody using non-MSN programs.

My suggestion, for now, is to use meebo. Meebo is a web-based, platform independent messenger. As far as I know, Meebo is not affected:

www.meebo.com

this issue is all over the Net. Keep checking once in a while if you can connect. If Microsoft indeed is trying to block everyone, it might take some time until people behind Pidgin (your messenger client I suppose) can get around this problem.

Regards!

Okay.. Welcome to Linux World!!

The very first thing you should do is

Click==>Application(Left Bottom Corner)==>SyetemTools=>Terminal

type

Code:
lsb_release -d

tell us what distribution to you use..

if you are talking about msn sort of messenger then its AMSN in Linux world, a clone to msn

after knowing you distribution with

Code:
lib_release -d

If Fedora:

Code:
su -l
(your root password)

Code:
yum update
Code:
yum install -y amsn

if Ubuntu:

Code:
sudo apt-get update
Code:
sudo apt-get install amsn

but you should have a pre installed Internet Messenger

placed under: Applications====>Internet===> Messenger

Let us know what else do you feel difficult..

Good Luck!

Cheers!!

I'm not sure what a distribution is sorry, im not good with computer terminology!

Maybe i should just hit myself with the computer now!

Sorry!

Ellie.
