let me get this straight.

You want to get RID of Linux on your hard drive and REPLACE it with windows????

My only question would be WHY???????? lol!

At least think about dual booting your box so you still have linux on your hard drive!!! lol!

Okay, well whatever. To each their own, I guess!

In a terminal, use cfdisk

Delete the partitions, write the table, put your windows disk in and reboot.

Okay so first of all, stop it. Have a little patience.. and stop replying every 2 minutes to 15 minutes begging for replies. This type of posting is against our rules.

Secondly you double posted in which I replied and didn't realize you had already posted, so that one will be closed, which is also against our rules.

Read our rules: http://www.linuxquestions.org/rules.php

And now sit back, calm your happy arse down and wait for the appropiate help to your questions. As we even have auto bumps to 0 replies but still, there is no reason to keep replying to bump your thread, especially after 5 or so minutes.

If you want to re-install windows, pop in the windows install cd and clear the drive, partition, format and install windows. Windows hogs everthing so I think that it'll give you a fresh install. If you have any problems with the MBR then put in the windows cd, boot to recovery console, then enter fixmbr, or fixboot, whatever you need to get the desired results.

With a linux live cd like knoppix you can clear a HD back to new unwritten state with dd.

What kind of problems are you having? Is grub or lilo still coming up after a fresh windows install? You'll need to fix the MBR then.

You give up on Linux - Unix too fast. You'll need to spend a few months with it learning if you come form a windows only environment.

"whts so gd about linux anyway"
You can browse the internet without web sites executing code on you machine without your consent through activeX in internet explorer. Or through jpeg buffer overflow.
No more ridiculous licensing requirements.
It doesn't cost you $1000 for software to get a good productive machine.
No more addware, spyware, keyloggers, virii, stolen passwords, stolen banking info, worms, or 100's of other security holes.
Being part of a great friendly family of people from all over contributing to the growth and success of open source software development.
TONS of software from browsers, mailclients, office suits, graphics, multimedia, utilities, download mgrs, web servers, ftp servers-clients, ect.

You can partition that hard drive in half. Give half for windows and half for Linux. You can use lilo or grub to allow choosing which OS to boot to. Then you can keep on using windows while you are learning Linux over time. But you'll have to give it a little effort.

Just one question, I am very interesting in it. how come you are giving up on linux? is it because of games? I love games don't get me wrong and most of the coolest game are writen for windoze. But slowly games are crossing over 2 linux. here's a link
http://www.lokigames.com/

But I know, I know most 3d games are 4 windoze. It sucks but hey whatever.

Sorry 2 lose you
have fun w/ windoze

Also need to remove Linux : (

Hi! I tried to install Linux.... Mandrake 10.1 and it won't boot. I have tried installing it with different options etc but it always crashes at the same point. too fast to see what it is trying to do at the time. It's not ready for prime time yet?
Must be some hardware incompatibility. I was really hoping it would work. I need to uninstall it as I gave it half the hard disk, dual booting with WIN2000 Pro. If I use Windows to simply re-partition then I lose the cool Linux boot selection screen on startup and the puter will not boot into anything.
I had to re-install Mandrake just for the boot screen! I suppose I could try fdisk /MBR or other methods from the repair console but I am not sure I would not lose my Windows installation. Is there a correct way to remove Mandrake? I really wish it would have worked! I'll try again in a year or so.

ATTENTION LOOKES !

If you have access to broadband, download Mepis 3.3 iso. Burn your disk
then boot into it. Once the live distro loads and you are at the desktop,
click on the INSTALL icon and choose to put it right where Mandrake is.
You will then enter LINUX HEAVEN.

I won't give up!

Thanks for the quick help! I will try Mepis. I use a Knoppix live CD for repairing Windows systems. Mostly for removing viruses etc... I need to learn Linux. Think I'll hang out here!

Thumbs up OK! Mepis works!

I have installed Mepis and it works except for the network adapter. It is onboard but I will add another. Do I need to re-install Mepis to see the new card or is there a 'plug and pray' function in Linux? Everything else seems to work fine and fast! I would imagine the network system is what was crashing Mandriva before...

Thanks for your help!

I'm pretty sure "plug and pray" should work.
I think I just threw a PCI wifi card at the system I built and it showed up next boot. When I built it I had it attached to my router via cat5. You'll need to get into network config to make it the default connection though I seem to recall. That was a bit flaky - I'll check later after I get home.
