problem setting up home linux gmail relay
I am running a gentoo box at home with DynDNS domain. Mike Chirico has a very nice tutorial on how to relay smtp.gmail.com so that I can send and receive emails with it. Caring not so much about fetchmail, I simply would like to be able to send out email from a BBS that i am running for a few friends of mine. However, the tutorial must have been written during the days before gmail moved the smtp service port to 465. Being new to Linux, even newer to emails, I attempted to modify the .cf files to reflect the port number, but now, all the emails get stuck in the active queue for a long time before sent to the deferred queue. The reason for the deferring is smtp.gmail.com read timeout.
Has anyone been able to get it to work successfully? If so, could you please lend me a hand? I really appreciate it. Thanks.
