Question Problem seeing samba shares

hello,
man this Samba aint for the faint of heart. i finally am getting a logon response but get the following output when I try to see my shares:
[root@localhost *******]# smbclient -L localhost
Password:
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE

i put in both my regular password and my root password and neither worked. is there another step i have missed?
thanx
alan
