Problem powering on virtual machine in Vmware 6.5.1
Yesterday I installed vmware v.6.5.1 on my Linux system. I'm running slackware kernel v.2.4.31.
The installation appeared to go smoothly. However, after I started vmware workstation with the vmware script, I couldn't power on the virtual machine. The error message was "Too many virtual machines are running. The maximum number of virtual machines is 64".
After doing some research online, I decided that I needed to install the vmware modules. The modules weren't found when I started vmware. So I unpacked the tar sources in /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source. I would've used vmware-config.pl --compile to do this, but I couldn't find it on my system after the vmware installation.
After compiling the modules I copied them to /lib/modules/`uname -r`/misc. Except that I couldn't copy the vsock.o module because it apparently wasn't compiled.
When I next tried to power on the virtual machine, I saw the same error message, "Too many virtual machines etc." However, more detailed information on all the modules previously missing was given just prior to vmware startup. The vsock module still wasn't found.
What do I need to do now to successfully run vmware? There appears to be scant documentation relating to this error. Do I need to configure vmware to start when the system boots? Please advise.
