problem on xmms !!
i just finished install redhat 8.0, in the terminal i type xmms, here what it came up..
[xxsx@xxx xmms]$ xmms Segmentation fault You've probably found a bug in XMMS, please visit http://bugs.xmms.org and fill out a bug report. please help.. |
oof.. I think you may have found a bug or something went wrong on the install. Try removing xmms from the redhat-config-packages then reinstalling it.
Also, you could try compiling it from the source from xmms.org. That's what I do. I don't use RedHat's xmms version. If that doesn't work. Do what the konsole says and fill out the bug report. |
Remove XMMS and replace with a newly downloaded RPM !!
|
hey it work, i try to remove it, then download it for redhat 7x, it's work..
thanks |
Can anyone tell me how to remove xmms and reinstall it ? please,
I just logged out without closing the application, then it stoped to play anything and if I move the track line it just hangs up . If you have any other solution to work it out without reinstalling it please tell me . I'll appreciate it . |
Nobody's answering !!!

It's doing what? You are running it inside a console window and then closing the console window and it hangs up after you close the console window?
If that is what you are saying, that is the way it should behave.. Don't run it from a console window, make a shortcut for it. |
i finally fix it, by remove it, rpm -e xmms, then download the one in www.xmms.org for redhat7.x *.rpm and install mpegxx.rpm the plug in, it work great....

No, I didn't run it in a console, I just ran xmms regularly from programs menu... What I did and I thought it is wrong is :
I logged out to change the user without closing xmms by close button . Then I relogged in and ran it again from the programs menu, Then I found that I can't play anything. Now, I think All I need is reinstalling xmms. 1- I want to remove xmms 2- I want to reboot to make sure I'm clean . 3- I want to install xmms My quwstion is : Can anybody tel me how to remove xmms from the system ? Thanks |
By the way.
I started a new terminal and tried to run an mp3 file with xmms, It gives me this : mcop warning: user defined signal handler found for SIG_PIPE, overriding arts_init error: can't connect to aRts soundserver Anybody k'now what it means ? |
two way you could do,
1.type this in the console, redhat-config-packages(require root pass), this will open up package management, found under sound and video, check on details, at the bottom uncheck the xmms, and xmms-skins, that's should do it..(i'm running redhat8.0 it maybe difference for 9.x)) recommend 2. rpm -e xmms command in the console.. |
1- libxmms.so.1
2- xmms=1.2.7 These 2 packages are needed to continue removing . That's what the popup says when I click update . What to do ? |
I tried the other way and it says the sme thing about those 2 packages .
|
Hello,
What do you think I should do ? |
That's what terminal said :
error: Failed dependencies: libxmms.so.1 is needed by (installed) kdeaddons-3.1-2 xmms is needed by (installed) xmms-skins-1.2.7-19.p xmms = 1.2.7 is needed by (installed) xmms-mp3-1.2.7-13.p |
